In this blog I'll be posting links to anime that's been
retooled to be 8bit. I'll also post links to anime or
game osts that I think deserve more attention.
Every anime file you see on the blog is 8bit 1280 x720p
with two exceptions: if a file was released on DVD or Laserdisc
only, we'll have a 480p video for it.

The Cardcaptor Sakura second movie is glorious, so it's full 1080p.

Sometimes I'll re-encode the audio in a file to a format that
works better with my receiver. I usually go with ogg or flac.

Files with several parts are stored on multiple redundancy filehosting systems.
Some big files had to be split into smaller rars, so use winrar
or whatever to unpack them. Enjoy. Let me know if any links
are broken.

By the way, animetosho has a lot of files in 8bit format, including
my files and ones from other groups. You can
can check them out here.

FAQ:
>So why 8bit? 10bit has much better colors, etc.
I have an ASUS o!play I use to play back my anime. Another
friend of mine uses his popcorn hour. Still another uses his wdtv.
The 10bit news left all three of us somewhat less than thrilled.
None of us are rolling in the bucks, and none of us want to
build/use an htpc to watch anime. We want to use our
standalone devices to watch and enjoy anime in the living room,
with a cold beer, a bucket of popcorn, and a handy remote
to cue up and play the shows.

I also know a lot of people that have old computers
that they can't afford to replace. 8bit was working fine for them,
and all of a sudden they're being left out in the cold. Being told
to buy a new computer does not sit well with them.

The long and short of it is more than a few of the leading
fansub groups are missing the boat by not offering 8bit anymore.
I think it's up to me to pick up the slack. I'll do my best to
keep 8bit alive as a format.

Thanks. This is wonderfully helpful for a lot of folks. I had looked for your blog site before without success. And zowie! Just what I needed -multiple download options. Some of these are slow as snails for me, others are slow as snails for other people, so this is great.

MU: I'm looking forward at the end to see how all this shakes out. It seems to me that all agencies involved around the world had to have overstepped their authority. I wonder how it will go down in the courts?

The only consolation is that this was Hollywood inspired, so Japanese anime is mostly collateral damage. The current party in the White House is beholden to Hollywood, whereas Hollywood hates the other party. A change in administrations this November will change the sympathies and priorities of the US Justice Department and perhaps let us enjoy our grey areas of existence.

When we brought you the story of potentially shady file sharing community MegaUpload being shutdown by the feds, accusations the site lead to over $500 million in lost revenue from pirated content was enough to land the execs on trial for various piracy related charges, racketeering, and money laundering.

While the company’s plans to launch a new music service known as “MegaBox” in 2012 are more than likely on hold, some are claiming it, and not piracy, lead to the ultimate demise of the site under the watch of Universal Music Group.

The theory posted by a Google+ user (via TechCrunch) seems to be based on a statement given by Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom regrading the new MegaBox service late last year. Kim originally told Torrentfreak the following about the new service’s potential to compete in the digital music industry:

“UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings. We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free. Yes that’s right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works.”

The theory suggests labels like Universal Music Group and the US government were encouraged to crack down on Megaupload with the copyright infringement and racketeering charges as a preemptive strike to block a potentially competitive and disruptive new music service prior to its launch.

The MegaBox service would essentially be an iTunes competitor, allowing user’s to sell music while completely bypassing labels, the RIAA, and the music industry in general.

It would also offer Megaupload’s 180 million registered users the ability to sell music while only giving up 10% of revenues, that’s in comparison to the industry standard 30% set by Apple for iTunes and most others. A promo site for the service listed Amazon and handful of others as partners.

Many of the company’s top execs are currently awaiting trial.

1. The "MegaBox" story is interesting, but I'm not sure how much to believe a company dumb enough to continue to rent servers near Washington D.C. Without that presence on US soil, there would not have been a local grand jury with jurisdiction to get the ball rolling. After the Hotfile case, you had to be morons to keep facilities in the US.

2. On a different note, thanks for the Rinne no Lagrange. It's a fun series that lacked an 8-bit mkv presence. But if you send out files in a 1 or 2 file torrent, portals will often pick them up and create other dl links for them. However, they tend to bypass torrents of more than 2 files or beyond a certain size. In case that's useful to know. Otherwise, you might want to be sure your web address is in the torrent info so folks can come here to get your wonderful multi-links (although DepositFiles has already deleted some of their dl's.

P.S. The only other series that lacks an 8-bit mkv version right now that I can think of is Amagassi SS plus. If that interests you, UTW is thought to have the best translation.

Thanks again. There are many "thank you's" out in the portals by those who don't know their messages don't necessarily get back to you. But I'm glad that the technically-limited are given a chance to experience and enjoy anime. That's a big part of why I appreciate 8-bit.

I added Amagami SS Plus to the list of shows above.

I'm also really glad to hear that other people need and appreciate these encodes.

Thank-you for continuing to release episodes in 8bit format. I don't watch anything on my computer. I burn everything to DVD's and watch them on a bigger tv screen. That way I don't have to wear my reading glasses to read the subs. Thanks again.
